Sabine, you personally designed the interior of Studio 17. Where does a good room concept begin for you?

I didn’t do it alone – many wonderful people supported me with their ideas and advice.

For me, a good concept starts with an idea – a vision of how the space should make you feel.
Only after that come shapes, colors and functions.

2. Studio 17 feels different right away – more personal, more alive than a typical hotel. What was most important to you in the design?

Colours and materials. They give a room character. They bring it to life and often tell a story without saying a word.

3. Each studio has its own personality – and yet everything feels cohesive. How did you find that red thread?

Honestly, it was all about teamwork. Great advice, openness to new ideas, and constant dialogue with people bringing different perspectives – that’s what brought it all together in the end.

4. Why was it so clear to you from the start: this place needs color?

Because we love color. Sometimes it’s just the right hue in the right light – and suddenly there’s a feeling you can’t quite describe. But it stays.

5. How did all the project partners come together to make this happen?

An outcome like this only happens through the dedication and expertise of everyone involved.
Every detail reflects the people who helped shape it – a huge thank you to everyone who left their mark.

6. Where do you find inspiration – from travel, magazines, everyday life… or is it more of an intuitive process?

Often, it’s intuitive – a gut feeling.
But of course, traveling has inspired me too.

Sometimes it’s as simple as walking through the city with open eyes.
A thoughtfully designed café, an unexpected mix of materials, or a unique color palette – all of that can spark the next idea.

7. And finally: If you had to describe the feeling Studio 17 should evoke in just one sentence – what would it be?

You walk in, feel the lightness, and think: This is exactly where I’m meant to be.

A conversation with Sabine Karg about interior design, color, and the feeling of home at Studio 17. 1.
