Clear geometries combined with nostalgic print aesthetics – timeless and contemporary at the same time.
Molly McCammon is an illustrator from Dundee, Scotland. Her work is heavily inspired by mid-century design and classic printing techniques. Geometry and a minimalist design language characterise her style, which evokes a sense of nostalgia with its warm textures and colour fields. With compositions that are partly reminiscent of Picasso’s cubism, Molly connects the past and the present, creating illustrations that feel familiar and contemporary at the same time.
Her creative process always begins analogously – with a pencil. Sketches on paper help her sort through ideas before she continues working digitally. She then uses her computer to create two-dimensional colour compositions reminiscent of the charm of 1950s and 1960s screen prints – an aesthetic familiar from picture books and advertising campaigns of that era.
Molly McCammon works internationally on editorial, advertising and branding projects. Her clients include Hitachi, EasyJet, The Telegraph, ELLE, Harry’s, Frankie Magazine, Konfekt Magazine, Virtuoso and The Wine Spectator.
